April 18, 2025 - April marks Alcohol Awareness Month, a critical time to raise awareness about alcohol addiction and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. Apricity, a leader in addiction recovery services, provides treatment, recovery support services, supported employment, job training and hope for those seeking a new direction.
The Impact of Alcohol Addiction
According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, nearly 30 million people in the U.S. struggle with alcohol use disorder, yet fewer than 10% receive the treatment they need. Alcohol addiction affects every aspect of a person’s life, from physical health to employment and relationships.
“Alcohol addiction does not discriminate,” said Michelle Devine Geise, CEO at Apricity, who has been on her recovery journey since 1995. “At Apricity, we believe in the power of recovery and the importance of second chances. Through our treatment and employment programs, along with our support services, we help individuals build a stable and fulfilling future.”
Apricity’s Approach to Recovery and Employment
Apricity provides a comprehensive approach to recovery, including residential treatment, recovery housing, and employment opportunities. The organization’s employment programs offer structured work environments with recovery support that helps individuals regain confidence, develop new skills, and achieve long-term stability. In addition, the certified recovery coach training provides job opportunities with Apricity or other organizations.
“Having a job during early recovery can be life-changing,” said Dan Haak, President, Contract Packaging and Recovery Support. He went to treatment in 1997 and worked in what is now Contract Packaging. “It gave me a sense of purpose and helped me rebuild my life one day at a time.”
Breaking the Stigma
Stigma remains a major barrier to seeking help. Many individuals fear judgment or discrimination, preventing them from accessing the resources they need. Apricity is committed to breaking the stigma and creating an environment where people feel supported on their recovery journey.
“We want people to know recovery is possible, and they are not alone,” said Jolie VerVoort, President of Residential Treatment Services. “By educating our communities and offering second chances, we can make a meaningful difference.”
